During the server meeting today, there was some talk about creating a [DH] or [DHC] “Darkhaven Community” guild. Well, it looks like we have the basic nuts and bolts of the new DH, which is awesome, I must say. I joined up. Let’s see where we can take this.
Ranks. There was some discussion about ranks. The conversation was cut short due to time. (Thanks for keeping the meeting short so we could prep for reset). There was two ideas thrown out for ranks. One was not to have ranks. The other was to have ranks for teamspeak admins, Commanders, and Guild Leaders. I think the principle here was to not have unnecessary ranks. Keep it simple. I think Guild Leaders are necessary. I also think that Commanders are. There was some discussion about TS admins and that it could be resolved without a guild rank. I agree.
Guild Leader Rank. I think that there is an opportunity here to provide some distinction between active WvW guilds that consistently contribute to the fight and casual players who happen to be representing a guild. I did a non-scientific survey, for a couple weeks at different times, to see which guild were represented. I saw about ten guilds who had a group showing. The rest were hit and miss. I think it would help members see which guild meet a modest threshold for activity. Something like contributing at least a 5-man group once per week would be significant to me. This can be accomplished by making two ranks. One for major guild leader and one for a minor.
Guild Representative. There are some guilds who have several members who contribute to WvW. There are other guilds who have GMs that don’t WvW much but have members who do a lot. I think that it would be nice to have a rank that Guild Leaders could appoint as their representative on WvW matters. This could give some flexibility to major guilds who have more people in the fight. It would also help smaller guilds who aren’t exactly WvW focused have a seat at the table.
Commanders. I definitely like the commanders to have a rank. It helps a lot to know who we can turn to. Since it only costs a pot of gold to get the rank, we might want to put some thought into how this rank is assigned. There are some players who tag up regularly and have tons of good experience strategically (knowing which objectives to hit for PPT, RI timers, upgrades, and threat) and tactically (knowing how to conduct zerg v zerg battles etc). Some others have the tag but have never used it. Still others may be recent server transfers that we haven’t vetted yet. I think that the rank ought to be given after the player has proved themselves to have basic competency. A panel existing commanders are the best judge. WvW Rank could be a useful stat to determine overall experience. Rank shouldn’t be the sole factor considered though. Bronze + Recommendation might work.
Veteran. I think there are lots of players who may be guildless or even part of an active guild who significantly contribute to WvW. These players given distinction in the guild roster would help guide new players. It would also help leadership to know who to include in planning.
Expectations. I have played a lot of MMOs. From my experience, all rank should come with responsibility and privilege. Commander ranks should tag during each server week for a designated amount of time. If they can’t commit to that, they should decline the rank. Guild Leaders should participate in DH guild planning and be a member of this site. This could be as simple as the guild leader attend or make sure his/her representative attends the weekly TS meeting. If a guild has no one showing, then their rank should be reduced or removed. I am not suggesting that inactive guilds be kicked from the community. I just think they don’t need to be given distinction over active members. The privilege I am referring to is access. Specifically access to schedules and planning to server coverage and strategy sessions. T4 and T5 probably doesn’t have a mole under every rocks like T1, but we should set our sights high.May 1, 2015 at 2:39 PM #1627
Love it, thanks for the awesome write up Bishop!!! I’m going to cross-post this to the DH WvW Facebook page too!!!May 1, 2015 at 2:47 PM #1629
Okey Dokey!!! To kep the conversations flowing I cross-posted this topic in the Darkhaven WvW Facebook group as well. Here’s a direct link to that post, here!May 2, 2015 at 12:16 AM #1632lone_survivorParticipant
I’m liking the idea, but there might be one little problem. Lets just say if all the active wvw Darkhaven players joined the guild we wouldn’t all fit in the guild since the cap is 500. We’d might have to make a 2nd guild for that.
Thoughts?May 4, 2015 at 1:08 PM #1638
I would LOVE to have that problem!!
My thoughts are we cross that bridge when we get there. When we hit the 400 mark then we think about creating another guild and start building the infrastructure around it.
How are things progressing on the Darkhaven Community Guild BTW? Do you guys need help with anything?May 6, 2015 at 10:44 AM #1648Midget USAMember
Sorry I haven’t had much time this week to continue the ball rolling on this. Thursday is day off so I hope to have some changes implemented by then with a more developed structure to the guild/ranks/promotion of the guild etc..
Some great points bishop and most will be incorporated in the changes.
I don’t think we need to worry about 500+ members at the momment. More writing coming soon.
